Step back in time and experience Choctaw Nation before statehood at the Peter Conser Home. Peter Conser was a Choctaw Lighthorseman and later a representative and senator to the Choctaw Council. He is well-known for both his organization and wisdom. His home in Heavener was kept in the family until it was donated to the Oklahoma Historical Society. It is now mostly restored to its former state when occupied by Peter and his family—the beds are made with care, the table is set for dinner and the fireplace is ready for use. Walk through the house and hear the fascinating stories behind each artifact and each room. Learn about Peter’s family members, their history and their way of life. Step into the barn and see old-fashioned machinery and transportation.
