U.S. Highway 271
Highway 271 hugs the contours of the Kiamichi River, roughly tracing the footpaths of Native Americans who traveled this stretch of country for centuries. The drive extends through three counties and the rugged and beautiful terrain of the Kiamichi Wilderness area, from Spiro south to the Red River and the Texas border. The Kiamichi Trace was the route used centuries ago to travel between the Arkansas River and the Red River. The north end serves as the gateway to the Talimena Drive, while it’s southern point is the entrance to Beavers Bend State Park.
