A beautiful view, that's worth the climb up the World's Highest Hill.

The city of Poteau is adventure central. Surrounded by some of Choctaw Country’s best attractions, Poteau is one place you have to visit! Every October, the skies of Poteau fill with color and people from all around head into town for the Poteau Balloon Festival. Throughout this two-day festival, you will find family fun galore. Hang on to your seat as you go on every amusement ride. Take off in a helicopter. Enjoy the mud races and bull riding. And you absolutely have to take a ride in a hot air balloon!

The fun doesn’t stop with this one event! Poteau keeps you coming back all year round. Learn the history of the area at the LeFlore County Museum. In the historic Hotel Lowrey, this museum shows you the unique history of LeFlore County and gives you a glimpse of the attractions you have yet to see. Just outside of Poteau, in Heavener you can see one of Oklahoma’s three runestones, the Heavener Runestone. Explore the park, hear about the mysterious origin of the carvings and capture the magnificent views around you.

For you bucket-listers, here’s an attraction to add to your list. Take a drive to the top of Cavanal Hill, the “World’s Highest Hill”. From the top you will have a phenomenal view of the Poteau River Valley. If you are up for a challenge join Poteau for one of their most famous events, the “Cavanal Killer”. This is an intense five mile walk/run to the top, but at the end you will have conquered the “World’s Highest Hill” at 1.999 feet. Plan your trip to Poteau with Roadtrippers now and see what other attractions catch your eye.
