Old Choate House Museum

The Choate Cabin Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Place and was built in 1867 by George Washington Choate. Choate, a Choctaw was a Civil War Soldier, Tobucksy County Sheriff and Judge, last President of the Choctaw Senate before Oklahoma Statehood, and Acting Chief of the Choctaw Nation. The Choate Cabin is located on the grounds of the Bynum Family Homestead and celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2017. The J.H. Bynum Mercantile was the most notable of the Bynum family’s endeavors in the northernmost part of the Choctaw Nation and Pittsburg County Oklahoma.
