Stringtown Historical Marker

The Stringtown Shootout Memorial marks the place a dance hall once stood along Highway 69. The hall, since abandoned and later destroyed, was made infamous by a shootout between Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde, and local law enforcement. The monument honors the sacrifice of Atoka County Deputy Sheriff Eugene Moore who was killed and wounded Atoka County Sheriff C.G. Maxwell.
